Royal Challengers Bengaluru win first IPL title after 18 seasons
RCB beat Punjab Kings by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 3 June 2025 to claim their maiden Indian Premier League championship.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the Indian Premier League for the first time on 3 June 2025, beating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was the franchise's first IPL title after 18 seasons.
RCB made 190/9 in their 20 overs, with Virat Kohli top-scoring on 43. Punjab replied with 184/7. Shashank Singh finished unbeaten on 61, but the target stayed just out of reach.
Krunal Pandya takes the match award
Krunal Pandya took 2/17 and was named Player of the Match, his second IPL final award after 2017. Suryakumar Yadav was Player of the Tournament. RCB received prize money of Rs 20 crore, and Punjab Rs 12.5 crore.
Kohli, who has played in the IPL since 2008, was Player of the Tournament in 2016 when RCB were beaten in the final, and scored a record 973 runs that season. The Indian Premier League is organised by the BCCI and has been played since 2008. Ten teams take part in the current format, each playing 14 group matches before the top four reach the playoffs.
A season interrupted
The final was originally due on 25 May at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The season was suspended from 9 to 17 May because of the India-Pakistan crisis, and the final was eventually played on 3 June in Ahmedabad.
What it means for the title tally
RCB had lost previous finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016. Their win takes them to one title, level with Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans. Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians remain on five titles each, with Kolkata Knight Riders on three.
After the final
On 4 June 2025, a crowd crush outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the celebrations killed 11 people and injured 56.
